The United States at the time still seemed to appreciate and try to keep its distance from other countries' problems. After the attack on Pearl Harbor in World War II, I think that gave them a wake-up call that you can't just ignore the problems happening in the world. Churchill knew that Americans did not want to be dragged into another world war. He believes that Russia does not desire war but “the fruits of war and the expansion of its power and doctrines.” But the fact that at the end of the war Russia behaved rather suspiciously did not help to reassure people. Another reason he felt the need to warn the United States was that their countries were allies of each other. The two countries had fought together in both world wars and the United Nations was also recently formed to replace the League of Nations.
