Cancer affects everyone. Most people in the world know someone who has had cancer, has cancer, or has died from cancer. Cancer is an abnormal growth of cells that divide rapidly and spread throughout the body. This is a group of over 100 different diseases that can appear anywhere in the body. With cancer becoming the biggest disease known to mankind, scientists have come up with many notes on cancer such as the origin, forms, like lung cancer, stages and ways to prevent or treat lung cancer. Cancer has been widespread for millennia. Cancer has been discovered in ancient manuscripts, fossilized bones and mummies in Egypt. Without using the word, it has been described that cancer existed as early as 3000 BC. It is described in the Edwin Smith Papyrus, an ancient Egyptian book on trauma surgery. “The writing says about the disease: 'There is no cure'” (“Early History of Cancer”). Later, in the century before the transition to the Anno Domini era, a Roman doctor translated the Greek form of “carcinos” and “carcinoma” as cancer, meaning crab, into Latin (“Ancient History of Cancer”). .There are two things a normal cell can do when damaged: repair itself or die. Tumor cells, on the other hand, decide to do neither of these things. They continue to grow and form new, non-normal cells. These cancer cells can invade other parts of the body besides the area where they choose to be different. This is what makes a cancer cell a cancer cell. As explained before, when a cell is damaged, particularly DNA, the cell chooses not to repair itself or die. It continues to live and form new cells that the body does not need and also contains this broken DNA. Cancer spreading in the body can vary over time…half of paper…all at once. During all the casualties of the wars America has been involved in, smoking has killed 10 times that amount of people. Over the past 50 years, smoking has posed an increasing risk among people in the U.S. Smoking increases the likelihood of both heart disease and stroke. Although lung cancer is the main consequence of smoking, cigarette smoking can cause cancer in most places in the body. Cigarettes can destroy the human body. The CDC also states that smoking can affect the health of bones, teeth, gums and most organs in the body. Another danger of cigarette smoking is for pregnant women. Smoking can increase the risk of early pregnancy, stillbirth, low birth weight, and SIDS, or sudden infant death syndrome. It's certainly horrible to harm your own body, but when it comes to another's life no one should take that risk ("Cigarette smoking".").
