Topic > The objectives and roles of the World Health Organization

Based on the WHO health agenda, the main objectives are the development of promotion, health security, strengthening health systems, production of research, information and evidence, strengthening partnerships and improving WHO: performance (WHO 2013) . In our country we have our own health policy, Health 2015 (STM 2001), which is a long-term health policy programme, based on the new WHO Global Health on the 21 program and the principle of health in all policies. It aims to improve health and functional capacity to lead a longer active life and reduce health inequalities. It is a cooperative program that aims to support and promote the health of all sectors of society. (STM 2001.) The goals of Finnish health policy are to reduce premature deaths, prolong people's active and healthy lives, ensure the best possible quality of life for all and reduce differences in health (Vuorenkoski 2008). focuses on disease prevention and health promotion, which is common to WHO goals in terms of equity, prevention and treatment of chronic diseases. Threats to health security are linked to environmental mismanagement, food production and trade, and the use of antibiotics. Strengthening health systems involves sufficiently trained staff, evidence-based actions, sufficient funding, adequate leadership and management, adequate technology, assessment and monitoring of the health situation. In Finland, we also strengthen partnerships, for example, with civil society and the private sector. (STM 2001.) In European religion there are programs to guide action in health promotion. Skill requirements cover communication, producing results, teamwork, building and promoting partnerships, empowering and motivating the environment, and many functional and knowledge skills. At least 7 years of experience with management at a national and international level is required. (WHO 2013.) So my education level is not high enough for the vacancies at WHO, due to the requirement of university degree, specialization, management and leadership skills and international or national experience. My training and experience was as a public health nurse and occupational health nurse in Finland. I am interested in public health, but my language skills are only in English and German. So, maybe at the beginning, a bottom-up work could be for me. And the vacancies are mostly abroad, so it would be difficult for me to leave my home country.
