Inheritance Case StudyMany themes are repeated throughout the Inheritance text including inheritance and who will get the farm. For characters like Nugget and Lyle it's not just about who gets the goods and properties, it's about maintaining the farm in the family name and ensuring it continues to be successful. Nugget has more right to the farm. His name appears in the will, he has a spiritual attachment to the land and morally he is the best contender to manage the farm. So who has more right to the farm? Lyle works hard but isn't the best farmer, Maureen is simply in it for the money, Julia is bored with her current job and wants a change in her life, and Girlie believes she's entitled to it because it's her land. William only wants the farm because it is "his family's farm." Dibs wants the farm, out of spite, to pay Farley back for her affair and keep her away from her son Nugget. All characters have partial rights to the farm as they have all contributed in some way. However, Nugget has the greatest right to the farm spiritually, morally, and by law. Nugget is of Australian Aboriginal descent, so he has a spiritual attachment to the land. Felix understands Nugget's spiritual right to the land, a right that no other family member has. Felix believes “this is Nugget country. His people have already been eliminated once." Felix doesn't want to hurt Nugget. Because of his ancestry, Nugget has the greatest spiritual attachment to the land, which gives him a connection and right to the farm. Others, however, believe they have a spiritual right to the farm. Brianna believes her father has a spiritual attachment to the land as “he could tell you every tree, every hill. Every creek." Shows his point of view that because Lyle has been on the farm for so many years, he is spiritually attached to the land. Lyle is also seen as an "outcast" as he is seen as a failure and a loser. Also Nugget he is considered an “outcast” because he is adopted. Because of this feeling they turn to the land. It is always there for them to be spiritually attached to. However, due to the Nugget's ancestry and land rights, Nugget is the most spiritually attached to the land and therefore has the right to the farm..
