In Alice Walker's story Nineteen Fifty-Five there are numerous characters that the reader encounters, however the main two you will see are Gracie Mae Still and Traynor. This story is told by Gracie Mae but describes Traynor's life in an indirect way. Looking at the story from a modern perspective, this can be compared to the rise and fall of a celebrity, as well as famous celebrities today and their problems which can be described using this story. It is unclear to most whether Alice Walker played Traynor as Elvis. , there is a very strong bond. Elvis Presley's musical career began in 1955 and gained rapid momentum in 1956 making him an international phenomenon. This would coincide with the "naughty little idiot" that Gracie was watching on television because that was how Presley danced unless told otherwise by the show that hired him to perform. One performance in particular was that of the song "Hound Dog", performed in late 1956 on "The Milton Berle Show", which sent the teenage crowd into an uproar and disgusted not only the press but some adult spectators. the story that Traynor attempts to be very close to Gracie Mae, suggesting that she may have abandonment issues due to her family never being seen. The reader learns nothing about his mother or father, and the deacon seen at the beginning of the story never appears again after that meeting at Gracie Mae's house. This could be compared to the modern artist Marshall Matthers or better known by his stage name Eminem. Eminem's life was not easy due to where he grew up and the constant struggles with his mother and the lack of a father in his life. The movie "8 miles" is a reference where fans got to see the hardships of life in Detroit that Em... middle of paper......no death of Traynor. In the years leading up to his death, Jackson's life had been deteriorating at an alarming rate and nothing seemed to stop him. However, upon hearing the news of his death, people began listening to his music again, praising him and watching the films he had starred in. The term that can be used for this is "bandwagon" which anyone joins and does not have to have in-depth knowledge of the thing or person, they just need similar interests or reasons. Michael Jackson's Thriller and Bad CDs are the examples that can be used because people would take Thriller, the title song of the CD and Smooth Criminal and play them constantly claiming to be "True Fans". The definition of a true fan is someone who not only knows the artist's background but also their music and enjoys listening to more than one song and doesn't just listen to them for the physical appearance.
