When I examine philosophical approaches to social justice and think about how they fit into my worldview. I think the one that fits my worldview the most is the so-called liberal approach. The reason I believe this is congruent with my views is because the principle of this approach is that there is economic freedom and political equality for all. I believe people should be treated equally, regardless of race, gender, height, sexual orientation and other traits. In my eyes, a gay person should not be treated less equally than a straight person. I believe that two people of the same race should be treated equally and given the same opportunities. As I thought about what I wanted to write for this assignment, I thought back to a time when an African-American coach qualified for a big job was rejected simply because the university didn't approve of his wife being Caucasian. A man was treated unfairly because of his race. There are several states that do not allow gay couples to marry, but straight couples may make fun of marriage and what it represents, but be treated more equally than a gay couple. The Oxford dictionary defines a liberal as a person who is open to new behaviors or opinions and is willing to discard traditional values. An example of this would be couples who decide to have children before getting married. There has been some discussion about whether the “traditional” thing to do is to get married and then have children, but a liberal doesn't see it that way. The definition of liberal could also cover people who are pro-choice when it comes to the hotly debated topic of abortion. A liberal person believes that a woman has the right to do what she wants with her body and that means being… ... middle of paper ... is not considered fair and equitable. Another thing I disagree with about oligarchy is that it says inequality is acceptable and promotes social well-being. The way I interpret this is that it is okay for inequality to be present and that a person will be okay if they are treated unequally because that might be the best choice for them. The whole approach is the opposite of what it means to be liberal and it is sad that some countries are part of it and believe it is the only normal way to live. Oligarchy is everything I don't support and don't believe in. I realize that everyone has different opinions on how certain approaches relate to their worldview, but I believe that we all deserve a fair and equal chance at life without feeling defeated or judged or without anyone having power over our lives simply because it's real or rich.
