This essay has been constructed so that the reader is able to appreciate the reasons for discrimination and inequality and when they might occur; as well as the definition and impact they have, not only on the LGBT community but on society as a whole. In this essay we will attempt to identify the manifestations of inequality in modern society, which despite everything continues to occur even after the Equality Act 2010 came into practice and introduced the Public Sector Equality Duty (PSED). This essay will focus on the inequality experienced only by the LGBT community, keeping in mind the fact that many other communities suffer from the injustice caused by discrimination. Allegedly, due to a recent period of progress in the legislative process, people who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) benefit from extraordinary privileges and protections initiated in light of the terrible experiences they have lived; as well as promoting diversity. These rights are protected by the legal system in the UK, but these are mere theories/ideologies whose application still remains in question. Many people have overlooked any inequalities that exist after the aforementioned laws came into force, thinking that if the law exists it means it will happen. This essay will critically evaluate the effective use of these laws within public and private organizations, as well as at the individual level.
