As Lister (2003) defines citizenship as the practice of enabling people to exercise their rights as citizens (as cited in the Inter-Agency Working Group on Children's Participation, 2008 ). Before doing this unit, I didn't know the term child citizenship. The reading material and activities helped me look into my past and connect my childhood rights to citizenship. For example, freedom of play; express my opinions about food, clothing and studying; from my parents the same rights that my brothers got. Thus, I developed my values of equal rights for boys and girls, freedom to play and study, impartial attitudes and responsibility from my experiences as a child. These values and attitudes can be seen in my relationships with my children, children in the workplace, and children in the community. Children should be given the opportunity to make decisions, freedom of choice, equal rights for boys and girls, expressing their opinion and freedom of expression. Therefore, my view of family has been influenced by my life circumstances. My personal democratic values and attitudes of fairness, dignity, freedom, respect, self-expression, unity and independence are the lens through which I view my teaching practice.
