IntroductionThis is my survival guide. For the previous nine weeks I had been in a completely new world. That world is distance learning. My experience so far with the University has been extremely interesting. I learned that it is not too late for me to attend school after all. I have learned that I can move forward with my education, contrary to what I thought all these years. The following document will serve as my survival guide for the remainder of my University of Phoenix experience. Using Axia Educational Resources The Axia University Library in Phoenix is an extremely valuable tool. There is a wealth of information stored here, all at your fingertips. The database search was very helpful when searching for articles. EBSCOHost, Gale PowerSearch, and ProQuest are the three databases available when accessing the article database, Major. As I soon learned, finding articles here is not difficult. The option to include peer-reviewed articles is an excellent feature to take advantage of. Internet searches are also valuable, but extreme caution should be exercised when using sources outside of Axia. Information on the Internet is easy to find, but difficult to trust. It is difficult to know whether the source is accurate or not. When I use information found on the internet, I have to remember to check whether the sources have been cited or not. When I need to find information on the Internet, I will use Google first, since it is very expensive. I will then look at my initial findings and try to narrow them down to sources I can trust. I have found that .edu or .org websites are generally trustworthy because they are not commercial sites and are not trying to sell anything. Even stationary sources must be checked. If an article I read on a website cites a source, I will try to find and verify it before using that material. Upholding Academic Honesty As explained very well in class, I quickly learned that upholding academic honesty is of the utmost importance. First of all, plagiarism is not tolerated at Axia University in Phoenix. Not to mention, it's a terrible thing to do anyway. Doing original work while accomplishing a task is the only way to ensure you learn what you came to learn. I am paying money for this education and cheating by letting someone else do the work for me will not benefit me at all.
