Dependence was associated with giving in to being cared for by others and gives both negative and positive feelings. Nurses care for their patients to the point where they become dependent on their nurses. If the caring relationship is positive, the patient will allow others to help him in many ways. This is related to nursing, because patients rely on nurses in hospitals to care for them. If it is a positive relationship, they are more likely to let nurses help them. If relationships are negative, they can lead to a struggle to obtain treatment, and couples to greater suffering. This supports the idea that the nurse-patient is central to nursing care and perhaps the most effective way for nurses to influence patient health outcomes.
