Three of Barbara Ehrenrech's most successful written pieces are: "What I Learned from Men", "Women Are Getting Sadder", "Not So Pretty in Pink". A comparison of Barbara's use of pathos will be explored in these essays through emotionally charged language, detailed descriptions, and her personal stories and examples found within the essays, describing which essay is stronger. Barbara is able to persuade her audience to support her point by discussing a topic that women may have faced with themselves in the past, or didn't realize they had, gaining a connection with her audience. Similarly, an example of emotionally charged language found in her essay “Women Are Getting Sadder” is: “Feminism has made women unhappy. This, in any case, seems to be the most popular lesson from "The Paradox of the Decline of Female Happiness..." (Ehrenrech). As Barbara states her point of view on others' opinions on feminism, it is evident that Barbara's choice of words are ones that can emotionally affect her audience. His use of pathos is evident through his choice of words, which can affect his audience in a positive or negative way. Barbara hopes that her strong words influence her readers in a positive way, making them aware of something different. Likewise, an example of a personal story found in her essay "What I Learned from Men" is: Here is an example from the my experience, a story that I blush to tell a few years ago, on the occasion of an international conference held in an exotic and luxurious environment, a prestigious professor invited me to his room for what he believed would be an intellectual discussion on questions of theoretical importance.
