There are a large number of immigrants who would like to join the U.S. Air Force, Marines, and Navy, but will not be able to do so due to their legal status. In fact, DREAM would eliminate such a barrier since one of the prerequisites of the DREAM law is to study in a higher education institution or serve in the military. Additionally, Defense Secretary Gates says the bill will increase the recruiting pool, which would be a boon for the military. Richard Durbin (2010) states that an important part of our military strength is diversity, as there are currently not enough Hispanics enlisted. Additionally, immigrants have a strong habit of serving in the military, and approximately more than 65,000 serve on tour. All in all, this bill would increase defense forces and give many who wish to protect the United States the ability to do so
