In 2014, a group of doctors conducted a study looking for specific symptoms in injured athletes and compared them to athletes who had not previously been injured (Fordyke, 2014) . Lack of trust wasn't specifically outlined in their research, but they noticed its effects throughout the study. Athletes demonstrated: pain, denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and then acceptance (Fordyke, 2014). These signs were not found in any of the healthcare workers. However, in addition to all these negative symptoms, there was an additional problem that caused athletes to have difficulty returning: they lacked confidence in their bodies, which meant they were not mentally ready or fit to return to the field. Without confidence, an athlete is unable to do so
