Participating in a team sport influences a young person's future by building their awareness of teamwork and cooperation, responsibility and helping them to make new friends. being fit, relieving the pressure of life and having fun: these are the benefits that participation in team sports could bring. Yet, in addition to these physiological benefits, team sports such as football, baseball and basketball also facilitate the mental development of participants, especially younger ones. This essay will address an empirical discussion of the effects team sports might have on a young person's future. Three ways in which team sports might influence young people are discussed in the essay: first, team sports teach young people the importance of teamwork and cooperation; secondly, through team sports, young people would become more willing and able to take on responsibilities; finally, practicing team sports is a non-substitutable way of socialising. Team sport is never an individual game. Although we have superstars in every type of team sport: Lionel Messi in football; Kevin Durant in basketball; and Adrian Peterson in the NFL, they could never have won such titles and awards by relying on their own talent without the support of their teammates. To illustrate, using a recent example, the Oklahoma Thunder, for the team Durant plays for, had two bitter consecutive losses to the San Antonio Spurs. Durant, this year's NBA regular season MVP, had a good performance; his teammates, however, especially the other starting lineups, were completely out of form. Things are the same for young people who play football or basketball. A sports team can be made up of people from different neighborhoods, different schools, and even different countries. These people are difficult to reach under normal circumstances. As a result, participation in these sports offers young people the opportunity to make friends, network and learn about different cultures.
