A Lonely NightHis eyes shone with tears while his lips trembled. The face of a woman, so powerful and with undeniable strength, had weakened at the sight of what was in front of her. The man she loved. The man she loved. What made her cry? Because love must be the strongest of all emotions to cause even the smallest of tears. It was 7:30 on a Monday morning. The smell of gasoline lingered in the air long enough for anyone to notice. Sunlight filtered through the brush. The cry of an animal in the distance frightened some doves in the clearing, which took off in marvelous flight. The metal lay scattered across the grass. A body lay on the ground, its eyes closed. He had a large cut on his leg. A bird flew into the clearing and landed on the body. A guttural cry escaped its beak, drowning out the wailing of sirens approaching in the distance. He slammed the door behind him. His face was hot as he grabbed his new perfume and threw it forcefully against the wall. That was the perfume he had bought her. He didn't want it anymore. His voice came from the other side of the door. She shouted at him to leave. Throwing herself onto the bed and covering her face with one of her T-shirts, she cried. Her voice was constantly persuasive, saying, “Carol, let me in. Let me explain.” He shouted "no!" Then he cried some more. Time passed with every sob he made. When he came to, no sound was heard on the other side of the door. A long silence came between her and the door. Maybe she had been too hard on him, she thought. Maybe he actually had a good explanation. He hesitated before walking to the door and turning the knob. Her heart cried out to her at that moment. He wasn't there. She called his name. "Thomas!" His screams were cut off by the roar of an engine in the garage. He got to the window in time to see his Volvo pull out of the yard. "Thomas! Thomas....wait!" His screams faded into thin air as the Volvo disappeared around the bend. Carol got really angry all of a sudden. How could he leave? He'll sleep on the couch when he gets back. Those were his thoughts.
