GMOs are an ever-present topic, on television, on the radio, in newspapers, this topic is often discussed in a highly debated and even painful way. But before expressing your opinion and thoughts, you need to understand what GMOs mean and what they are. The acronym GMO is the achromic of the terms: genetically modified organisms. These are non-human organisms whose genetic material has been altered through genetic engineering techniques. The first GMO of the modern era was obtained by SN Cohen and H. Boyer who managed to clone the gene of a frog. GMOs are produced through biotechnological processes. Biotechnologies are techniques that exploit the properties of both plant and animal cells to produce new varieties of plants or animals. Biotechnology is not an invention of the last few decades. Simply the wine fermentation process, which is obtained by exploiting some bacteria, is a biotechnological process known since ancient times. In the years between 1997 and 2010 the surface area of GMO cultivated land had a huge increase, we moved 4.2 million of it to 365 million hectares. In fact, 10% of the planet's arable land is used for genetically modified crops. Most of these crops are located in North America, but there should be a rapid increase in the cultivated area in the so-called developing countries in recent years. In the USA in the years 2009/2010 the vast majority of soybeans (93%), cotton (93%), corn (86%) and sugar beet (95%) were grown with genetically modified varieties. 2012 data published by the International Service for the Acquisition of Agri-Biotech Applications (ISAAA) shows that in Europe there was a 13% increase in cultivated area (globally the increase was 6%). The advantages of these techniques are evident ...... middle of paper ......, the unfavorable ones are in my opinion the most important, as they are closely linked to human health. My family and I have had Sounterners for generations that we use in growing fruit and vegetables. This requires a lot of time, desire and care, but the results are incredible. Both in summer and winter we don't need to buy fruit or vegetables at the supermarket. The thing I like most is that we save a lot of money and we know for sure what we will eat. The only products we use against insects are completely natural products, as last summer we were invaded by snails. To prevent them from eating the plants, we found a remedy: take small bowls, fill them with beer and place them near the plants. It was the first time we used this technique but it worked! This is why I am absolutely against any production of both plant and animal GMOs.
