Burglary DefinitionCrime is defined as an act that violates criminal law and is punishable by the state. (Conklin, 2013, p. 3) Burglary is considered a property crime by the Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) program and defined as “entry into a facility using force without permission to commit a crime or theft". The UCR collects data on various crimes reported by law enforcement. By collecting and publishing the data received from law enforcement, the information can be used in the future to improve the time officers respond to calls and to provide the public with information on crime statistics. Burglary Research Strategies There are many different ways to research crimes and criminal crimes. behaviors. It is important to research how crimes occur and what drives criminals to behave in certain ways, so that crimes can be reduced and criminals can be caught and punished as needed without others getting hurt. Studying criminal behavior gives us insights into how to teach others to protect themselves from these crimes, improve officers' response times to a call, and even help officers find victims more quickly. For this article I have chosen to discuss the observation approach which means observing and studying a criminal in his environment while remaining unknown, this can be done in different ways such as using cameras, microphone or even private investigations. I also chose the survey approach when applied to the crime of burglary. Investigating past criminals gives us the opportunity to ask a series of questions to criminals who can remain anonymous, so we can analyze the results and work to find ways to protect citizens.
