Since then there have been 156 exonerations in the United States. 156 people, that's a lot of innocent people who are on death row thinking they're going to die. Unfortunately this is a reality for many innocent people who are wrongly convicted and then executed. There was no justice in the case for both parties involved after it was discovered that the wrong person had been executed. The state cannot undo an execution once it has been carried out. According to Alan Berlow, Cameron Todd Willingham was executed after being found guilty of killing his children and burning down his house afterwards (Berlow). Willingham was executed in 1994, after his executions the Attorney General wanted to take a look at the case to find that there was no evidence to prove that Willingham committed the crime intentionally. It means that they judged the case to be an accident, they said that this man did not kill his children, the house caught fire by accident. Children died from smoke inhalation and burned alive. Has anyone ever thought to ask the firefighters how the fire started? All the prosecution knew was that the children had died and the house had burned down. Now I can see him getting child endangerment or child neglect charges, but the death penalty is harsh. Then finding out it was all an accident was even worse. The state of Texas obviously apologized to his family
