This is why the United States of America could not have simply been divided in half over the issue of slavery. These kinds of revolutionary acts and events are typically not isolated to one area for such a profound difference. There are many reasons why America could not have continued with such opposing views on slave ownership. An issue as large as slavery or the questioning of the independence of the individual in the land of the free could not pass without protests and riots. Two very strong and powerful groups would not have been able to abandon the issue of independence. The reason why North and South could not simply agree and disagree is not complex. In the case of the Civil War, slavery was the main opposition during this time and the division occurred between the North and the South. If the Civil War was a battle to be avoided, it should be not. The civil war was a long time coming and there would be no other way to make a decision. There will always be different sides to a war and although it will sometimes seem like hundreds of opinions emerge; there are really only two sides to a war. As for who is right in a war, it really depends on which side of the camp you hear about. It will always be difficult to determine the necessity of war; however, in some cases war is not really an option
