They Don't Get Enough SleepHere's a look at an average high school class in first period. The children are entering slowly, reluctant to take their seats. Some grab their cups of coffee, depending on those 2 cups of caffeine to get them through the day. Others gave up completely, with their heads resting on the desk and a small puddle of drool forming on the desk. Most kids will arrive just as the doorbell rings, those who have hit the snooze button one too many times. While others who take their time in the morning, come in just before the end of the period. Why is this class such a boring scene? I forgot to mention that it's 7:50 in the morning and it's a classroom full of teenagers, representing the most exhausted generation of teenagers. The natural biological clock of adolescents does not coincide with our schedules. Our peak energy usually doesn't occur until 5pm. Younger children approaching 10 hours of sleep enjoy starting school late. While sleep-deprived teenagers wake up before dawn to catch the bus. It's too early for teenage minds to function properly...
