In 1947 the British rulers of India divided India into two countries. Pakistan is made up of Muslim majority provinces and India is made up of Hindu and other religious majority provinces (quote?). This division was due to the demands of Muslims who found it impossible to live with Hindus as they were socially, morally and religiously different from them. The process of this Hindu Muslim separation was started by the Muslim educator Sir Syed Ahmed Khan who established the Mohamadan Oriental Collage in 1857 to educate Muslims in Aligarh which would later become known as Aligarh University. In 1906, to counter the growing influence of the Hindu majority, the graduates of this university organized their own party and called it the All India Muslim League. This party played a vital role in making Muslims politically active and making the British aware of their concerns. Finally, in 1947, under the leadership of Mohammed Ali Jinnah, the party succeeded in creating Pakistan. While Sir Syed Ahmed Khan and his colleague worked for Muslims to have a political voice, there were others, for example Allan Octavian Hume and Dadabhai among others, who, in 1885, organized the Indian National Congress party. Initially, his aim was to ask the British government to provide more jobs to educated Indians but later, under the leadership of Mohandas Gandhi and Pundit Nehru, he worked for independence from British rule resulting in the creation in 1947 of the India, a country with a Hindu majority. Syed Ahmed Khan Sir Syed Ahmad Khan has become known as the most influential Muslim educator and political leader in India (quote?). Before the British colonized India, the Mughal emperors encouraged education for both Hindus and Muslims in one place...... middle of paper......Singh, India. Pakistan, not accepting this decision, invaded Kasmir Pakistan in 1947 launching a military attack and managed to occupy a small part of it and found a province called Azad Kashmir. Since then there have been multiple wars between India and Pakistan over this issue and there has been an ongoing struggle for independence within Indian Kashmir, which India has attempted to suppress by force, resulting in widespread violations of human rights. Lord Louis MountbattenLord Mountbatten, born 25 June 1900 in England, was a decorated naval admiral who in 1947 became the last viceroy of India. As viceroy he was assigned the task of negotiating with Mohammed Ali Jinnah, Gandhi and Nehru and the overseas independence of India and Pakistan. From 1947 to 1948 after independence he became the first Governor General of India On 27 August 1979 he was assassinated in a bomb blast.
