First, Bacon's Rebellion was a confrontation between Governor Berkeley and Nathaniel Bacon over Native American attacks on frontier settlements and the colonist's desire to expand westward (book 51). After Governor Berkley refused to retaliate against the Native Americans, an internal conflict ensued, culminating in Bacon's rebels attacking the Native Americans and later Jamestown (Book 51). However, the question arises: why did this event occur? First, evidence indicates that Bacon's Rebellion occurred because the Chesapeake settlers desired to expand their territory and achieve further economic success, which was based on the social and economic structures of the Chesapeake colonies. However, as the colonies expanded their borders, Native Americans attacked the new colonial settlements to protect their ancestral lands, which sparked deep hatred between the two sides. Subsequently, without an adequate colonial government to quell the unrest, the feud between Governor Berkeley and Nathanial Bacon erupted into a riot, which saw the capital burned and lives ended.
